12 of my favourite Instagram locations in Paris

Paris is one of the most magical and most romantic cities in the world. With iconic landmarks throughout the city, plenty of gorgeous skyline views and pretty little streets to wander and explore there are so many photo opportunities! Capture them to share with your friends and followers to make them fall in love with Paris as much as you do when you visit. These are my 12 favourite Instagram locations in Paris – make sure to check them out!

1. Trocadéro

Morning at The Trocadéro

A visit to The Trocadéro for sunrise is not quite as quiet as you think it might be. We saw 8 bride and grooms, 6 fashion shoots and 1 music video being filmed. But it is my favourite Eiffel Tower view in Paris and especially with the pink tones of sunrise joining you.

By this time of the day I’d clearly seen enough of the Eiffel Tower!

We were unlucky that the weekend we were in Paris, the Jardins du Trocadéro were being set up for a concert and left a bit of a mess in the background of our pics! The Palais de Chaillot sits on top of the Trocadéro and consists of two separate buildings which leaves a wide sweeping esplanade for you to enjoy the view, unhindered, down to the Eiffel Tower across the Seine.

2. Au Vieux Paris

Au Vieux Paris

Find the charming café Au Vieux Paris on the larger of the two islands in the Seine, Île de la Cité, a mere stone’s throw away from Notre Dame Cathedral. From the gold lettering to the purple table and chairs this café front is one of my favourites in Paris. I bet that tangle of green leaves looks exquisite when it’s turned to orange in the Autumn and when it’s studded with blossoms in the Spring!

3. Sacré-Cœur

The magnificent Sacré-Cœur Basilica

Head north to Monmartre, the 18th arrondissement of Paris and my favourite area of Paris. Set on a hill, the main focal point is the stunning Sacré-Cœur church which you can see from ll across the city. Come early in the morning to avoid plenty extra tourists and to capture the rising sun’s light catching on the domes.

Sacré-Cœur from Square Louise-Michel

For another perfect perspective of the Sacré-Cœur make your way into Square Louise-Michel which sits in front of the building. Wind your way down the paths and enjoy the contrast of the green of the gardens with the sparkling white of the basilica.

4. La Maison Rose

La Maison Rose in early morning light

Another gorgeous corner of Monmartre is where one of the most famous restaurants on Instagram is located. You can find La Maison Rose in all its pastel pink and pea green trim glory on the corner of Rue de l’Abreuvoir.

Matching on purpose!

Come early in the morning (we were there at 7.30am on a saturday) to have this beautiful location all to your self, come back later and you’ll be battling a lot more people for your perfect take.

5. Rue Crémieux

The most colourful street in Paris

Visit Rue Crémieux to inject some pastel perfection into your feed with a photo on Paris’s most colourful street! Each house is painted a different colour and the street is lined with plants – you’ll just most likely have to compete with a lot of other people to get your perfect photo.

Rue Crémieux

I was dismayed to see people walking up to doors and sitting on doorsteps, please please remember this is a private residents street so be respectful taking photos here!

6. Carousels of Paris

Carousel beneath the Eiffel Tower

Located throughout Paris, there are a number of gorgeous carousels always near to some of the city’s most famous monuments which means you can ride them with a glorious view as you spin round! One of the most famous is the one at the base of the Eiffel Tower. It’s located close to the wall above the Seine so tricky to get a shot with both in full but I’m enjoying this shot capturing the intricate detail of the Carousel roof.

Carousel beneath the Sacré-Cœur

Another scroll stopping shot features the carousel in Square Louise-Michel and the classic features of the Sacré-Cœur basilica looking down. We were lucky (?) enough to be accidentally locked in before the park had officially opened to capture this peaceful photo.

7. Shakespeare & Co.

Beautiful bookshop – Shakespeare and Company

I think Shakespeare and Company may be one of the most well recognised and most photographed bookshops in the world. If not, it definitely is in Paris! You could easily overlook this shop as it sits on the bank of the Seine opposite the Notre Dame Cathedral. But there is always a huddle of people outside so you know where to look. After taking your photo have a rummage and see what hidden gems you might find.

8. Le Consulat

Quiet streets of Monmartre at sunrise

Another of my favourite Insta spots in Monmartre is the restaurant Le Consulat. It makes an appearance on any travel grammers feed if they’ve visited Paris and seeing it in person it was not a surprise to see why. An early morning amble around the cobbled passageways of Monmartre gave soft purple lighting as the sun started to rise above the city.

Le Consulat on a wet sunday afternoon

Even on a wet Sunday afternoon Le Consulat makes for a perfect photo. What you miss in the morning are the shops overspilling posters and postcards into the street so come back for a busier scene.

9. Street Art in Monmartre

Wonder the streets of Monmartre in hunt of street art

Monmartre is synonymous with the Impressionists and many of them lived and painted in this village-like area of the City. Wonder the cobbled streets and the legacy they left behind them can be felt around you. From the plaques and information boards about who lived where to the artists that sell their paintings on the street today. In particular keep your eyes peeled for street art adorning walls and buildings through the area. My favourite is this one on Rue Berthe!

10. Rue de l’Université

The Eiffel Tower from Rue de l’Université

You can find a great angle and framing of the Eiffel Tower at Rue de l’Université. Unfortunately there are a lot of cars on this street and we didn’t get here early enough so there were far too many other people to get a snap walking down the street!

11. Galerie Vivienne

Galerie Vivienne

Galerie Vivienne is a shopping arcade built in the 1800s near to Palais Royal in the centre of Paris. It was super peaceful when we visited which was a welcome change from the bustling streets and walkways along the Seine. The glass ceiling lets in plenty of light which makes the arcade feel golden and highlights the intricate mosaic floor.

12. Odette

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My final fave location for an Instragram snap in Paris is Odette. A cute and quirky pastry shop, Odette is hidden on Rue Galande. The contrasting colours and design of the two buildings comes together in an image that surely won’t be scrolled past!

What’s your perfect Paris photo?

  1. Paris is wonderful !

    “Aujourd’hui l’espace est splendide!
Sans mors, sans éperons, sans bride,
Partons à cheval sur le vin
Pour un ciel féerique et divin…”
